AKU is an Italian industrial company with artisanal roots, founded by Galliano Bordin, which has specialized in the design and production of high-quality mountain footwear for over thirty years . Follow the offers and discounts available on the website.
AKU is a renowned Italian brand of mountain footwear for mountaineering, trekking, hunting, and outdoor recreation. With over 40 years of experience in the footwear industry, the technical quality, functionality, and reliability of each model are guaranteed by Italian manufacturing tradition.
High-quality raw materials and a careful focus on environmental impact are the cornerstones of AKU's design and production process. Each model is an excellent, ethically conscious product that will become the perfect companion for your outdoor adventures.
In 2013, after the German consumer protection organization Stiftung Warentest awarded the Trekker Lite GTX model the lowest score for the presence of toxic substances in the materials used, it became clear that AKU's particular attention to the selection of high-quality raw materials was one of the most important requirements in its production.
Based on this awareness, the company took action to further improve its environmental performance, not only in terms of its products, but also at the organizational level and in its relationships with the community. Three internal groups were thus created, dedicated to PRODUCT, INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS, and COMMUNITY, to manage initiatives related to safety, the circular economy, and social solidarity. Over the years, several projects have been implemented, the most significant of which are listed below.
In 2018, AKU was the first and only footwear company in the world to calculate and certify the environmental impact of a shoe, using a calculation process developed by the Swedish research institute Environdec.
The result was achieved by applying the International EPD® System method, which determines the level of environmental impact of the entire life cycle of the footwear, from the production and acquisition of raw materials and semi-finished products, to transportation, factory assembly and packaging, up to disposal.
For AKU, certifying the environmental impact of the Bellamont Plus model represents a responsible commitment to retailers and end users, with the aim of providing maximum transparency regarding the product's production and origin. The environmental impact analysis also allowed the company to identify the areas with the greatest impact and therefore evaluate new design approaches aimed at limiting the impact of its production on the natural environment.
